Between July 4-18, 2026, ebio-hub PostDoc Constantin Alexandru-Ionel attended the "Explore the Mysteries of Chips" Summer School, organized by the School of Integrated Circuit Science and Engineering at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), in Chengdu, China. His participation took place within the framework of eBio-hub activities and aimed to strengthen expertise relevant to bioengineering applications while fostering international scientific networking and potential collaborations.

The summer school provided theoretical and practical training in the design, fabrication, and application of sensors and integrated circuits, covering both analog technologies—including data converters, communication interfaces, RF circuits, and power management circuits—and digital technologies, such as processors and memory systems.

During the program, Constantin participated in theoretical courses on integrated circuits, addressing their fundamental principles, technologies, and applications. The practical training included hands-on cleanroom activities related to key microfabrication processes, such as dry and wet silicon oxidation, photolithography on silicon dioxide, and silicon diffusion processes used for semiconductor doping and the fabrication of p–n junctions.

An important component of the mobility was dedicated to scientific networking and collaboration development. Constantin established new professional connections with researchers and PhD students, including members of the laboratory led by Professor Zhang Yi, an eBio-hub collaborator. Discussions explored potential future collaborations in bioengineering, particularly in the area of electronic skin and e-Tattoo technologies, directly relevant to emerging research directions within eBio-hub.

The program also included cultural and extracurricular activities, offering participants the opportunity to experience Chengdu and Chinese culture through visits to local landmarks and museums, Panda Valley and the Dujiangyan Irrigation System, as well as traditional activities such as Sichuan mask painting and Chinese tie-dye.

Participation in the summer school contributed to strengthening eBio-hub expertise in sensors, integrated circuits, and microfabrication technologies with potential applications in bioengineering. It also supported the expansion of the project’s international network through new scientific contacts and opportunities for future collaboration, while providing valuable knowledge and technological perspectives for the development of innovative bioengineering systems.
