eBio-hub team’s visit to CNRS Laboratories: Laboratoire de Physique des Solides and Institut Charles Sadron - 15-26 September 2025

15/09/2025
Once again, the eBio-hub team from the Center of Excellence in Bioengineering visited the Institut Charles Sadron (ICS), CNRS, University of Strasbourg, and the Laboratoire de Physique des Solides (LPS), CNRS, Paris-Orsay.

The visit began with a hands-on collaborative experiment conducted in partnership with Dr. Guillaume Tresset at LPS. The work focused on the fabrication of lipid containers designed for skin applications using advanced microfluidic techniques. Preliminary results included size measurements obtained via Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) and detailed structural analysis through Cryo-Transmission Electron Microscopy (Cryo-TEM). These findings highlighted the potential for scalable production of biocompatible vesicles. Following the experimental session, the eBio-hub team held productive discussions with Dr. Tresset and his research group on the next steps toward optimizing lipid carriers for drug and gene delivery applications.

Another highlight of the visit included experiments and training sessions on the working principles and applications of CLSM microscopy — a key technique for characterizing lipid containers and assessing their biological performance.

The second part of the visit took place in Strasbourg at the Institut Charles Sadron, where the eBio-hub team met with Dr. Doru Constantin and his research group. Discussions explored potential collaborations in biomaterial design and therapeutic delivery systems, laying the foundation for future joint project proposals.

During the visit, the eBio-hub ERA Chair delivered an invited seminar titled “Microfluidics in Cell Culture and Gene Therapy” to the institute’s scientific community. The presentation showcased innovative microfluidic platforms that enhance cell viability and precision in gene-editing workflows, sparking engaging discussions on integration with Strasbourg’s expertise in polymer-based biointerfaces.

To strengthen ties, Dr. Doru Constantin was invited to deliver a seminar at eBio-hub in the near future, further solidifying the growing partnership between the two institutions.

Overall, the visit fostered interdisciplinary collaboration in bioengineering, with a focus on microfluidics applications in biomedicine. It not only advanced ongoing research but also reinforced eBio-hub’s network within the CNRS ecosystem, paving the way for new synergies in bioengineering innovation.
