Andreea I. NICULESCU
Dr. Andreea I. Niculescu is a Senior Research Scientist whose work lies at the intersection of Human–Computer Interaction (HCI), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Natural Language Processing (NLP), with a particular focus on designing intelligent interactive systems that leverage multimodal user input. She holds a BSc degree in Computer Science from Ruhr University Bochum, Germany, and a PhD in Human Computer Interaction from the University of Twente, the Netherlands. Her doctoral research focused on conversational interfaces for task-oriented dialogue systems. Throughout her career, she has worked in both academia and industry across Germany, the Netherlands, and Singapore, including more than a decade at the Institute for Infocomm Research (A*STAR), where she led and contributed to numerous multidisciplinary research projects in conversational AI, user experience design, multimodal interaction, human factors, and intelligent user interfaces. Her research combines technical innovation with user-centred design, spanning conversational agents, multimodal interfaces, AI-assisted decision support, emotion-aware systems, and digital accessibility. Dr. Niculescu has also supervised student research projects, taught courses on AI and language technologies, served as reviewer for leading international conferences and journals, and actively contributed to the organization of scientific workshops and tutorials. She is a strong advocate for developing human-centred AI that promotes social empowerment, sustainability, and positive societal impact.
